Vegan in Austin

Austin, Texas is one of my favorite places in the US to visit. The culture, music, and food makes it an absolute blast. I’ve been visiting there almost every year since about 2010, and my has so much changed!

Over the last few years the vegan scene in Austin has exploded. So many new places have opened, and many others have added vegan friendly items to their menu that aren’t salad (no offense to you salad fanatics out there, but please, don’t make salad my only option when I go out to eat)!

This blog is a living blog where I will be updating places that I visit, most of which with photos. Note that this is not a comprehensive list of everything in Austin — only the places I have visited. You can also check out a map of my travel recommendations here for a visual of where these places are.

Please note this blog was most recently updated on 3/12/19 as part of a whirlwind trip where I only had one day to explore delicious vegan things. This is the first trip to Austin I’m documenting for the blog, so expect updates my next trip!

Arlo’s Curbside Kitchen

Arlo’s is a food truck nestled in downtown Austin. You can get anything from a burger, to rosemary fries, to a frito pie, to chick’n tacos. I had the burger, and was pretty impressed. It doesn’t taste “meaty” but was very satiating. All the toppings (including the cheeze) was really good. Good and greasy, it really hit the spot after a long day on my feet downtown.

Sweet Ritual

Sweet Ritual is a great all vegan ice cream shop located just off I-35 to the east of Hyde Park. They have a variety of great flavors, but I settled on the least photogenic but most delicious — caramel, peanut butter, and coffee.

Conscious Cravings

Conscious Cravings is a food truck with a couple of locations, but I visited the one off I-35 near the Muller Town Center District. They focus on wraps, salads, and smoothies. Since they had a BBQ seitan wrap on the menu, I couldn’t pass it up. Both the BBQ sauce and seitan were fantastic. If you’re looking to avoid greasier food trucks, this one is much less oily than others I’ve been to.

Rabbit Food Grocery

If you need to stock up on vegan snacks or are staying somewhere with a kitchen Rabbit Food Grocery is a great place to do it. I always stop here when I’m in Austin just so I have a great variety of vegan snacks on hand.

To Visit List

Lastly I have to give a brief shout out to places I haven’t been to, but were highly recommended and will likely be a stop on my next trip.
