June 27, 1952 : I’m Very Homesick

Crestline June 27, 1952

Dear Otto,

Many thanks for your letter, that I’ve painfully been waiting for. I was very, very happy about your small photo. How long would it have probably taken you in Austria to buy a second hand car, I don’t think you would have ever gotten around to it.

Yes Otto, I’m very homesick, if my friends were here, then it would be very funny. It would be pretty fun with my friends. But I’m always alone, and I can’t stand it anymore. We have two small girls here, they love me very much and diligently teach me English every evening. Today I went swimming with the family where I work in a small lake. We go every two weeks back and forth and eat sometimes in the park, it is very beautiful, I struggle every time. Then I want to learn to swim, but I’m afraid of the water.

I’m curious how many miles are from here to Springfield, it could but unfortunately couldn’t exactly figure it out. Hear it’s 300 to 400 miles at most. Now I can get an idea of where you work. It seems like a really big factory.

If you get a letter from Leni, then kindly write her that I don’t know what is going on with her, that I was the last one to write. I’m happy with two letters from Austria today.

With many greetings and kisses I close.

Your Elis

Don’t let me ever again wait so long for the mail please.

It makes me so happy Otto, when you will come!
