May 5, 1952 : On Fridays There Is Dancing

The above photo is of Otto. Taken when he was 16, likely in Austria.

Peoria, May 5, 1952

Dear Elisabeth,

Although I didn’t get an answer to my last letter,  I want to write back again. I assume that the letter to Wisconsin was addressed to you, but now I have changed apartments and am currently at another place 8 minutes from work. Wisconsin is so far away. I am currently in the city. Also similarly I’ve already been able to settle down a little bit. It also already suits me better since my brother is with me so I’m not so bored. Of course it would be way nicer if you were here my love.

Occasionally my brother and I are invited to hang out with a German work colleague — we are often with him. Then this week we were also with him at the German Sports Club Meeting. On May 17th, there’s a big German May Day we are going to join.

Today is Friday as you already may know. On Fridays there is dancing. In our company they also employ women. We were invited to come to the dance, but we didn’t feel like it. That’s why I’m at home writing now, and my thoughts are only with you Elis. I’ve turned our radio to quiet music so I can think about the beautiful last days we were in Bremen. Then the farewell came. How nice it would have traveled together — we would have been together a few days longer. Now we haven’t seen each other for two months already, but let’s hope that it will not be much longer until we see eachother happy again Elisabeth.

Now take (these) intimate  greetings and kisses from your beloved Otto

Send me as big of a photo of you as possible soon.
